    My Advice For Kids Boxing

I started boxing thanks to my brother when I was fourteen years old. It’s important for kids to remember to have fun. Boxing truly gives you a sense of self and pride, which makes boxing an incredible sport for young boys. I love seeing them get out there and show their poise.

The picture above is my son, Ray Jr. when he was young. This picture was taken in the 70’s when he was about 3 or 4 years old wearing one my gloves.

Are any of your kids thinking of starting to box?

I take my 6 year old son with me to an open group training sessions I help out at - usually once a week. It's a mix of ages (two guys there are 70+ are still pack a punch!) and abilities. I find that his concentration wavers after 30 mins or so I let him take a book or toy to entertain him while I finish the session. I also take him to the gym when I do poly / weights session and let him fight with me in the ring - just on a fun level for him. At this age I'm just trying to get him interested in sport, lay some building blocks for excersise and build his confidence and respect. It has to be fun at his age and I don't want him to feel forced into anything. Hopefully when he's old enough to train a little more seriously he'll have an interest.

I don't have kids yet but I've always wanted to get in the ring. However, I've never been successful with the speed bag which I think has detoured me away from getting more serious. I can never get it going!

      Hi Ray,

If you could email me just a couple personal words of encouragement for my cycling training, I'd really really appreciate it. I know you're super busy, but I have always been a huge fan and getting some words from you would really be fun. Thanks, Champ.

HI Ray, if you could email me your thoughts on what size speed bag i should use it would really help me. i have a small size speed bag and a medium size and im not sure wich one i should use. im 16 years old i can hit both speed bags no problem and very well. but im just wondering if the smaller speed bag is really ment for kids and the bigger ones are for older people or does it really depend on how fast ur are and how good ur hand eye cordination is.
