How I Listen to My Body and Stay Active

I’m featured in a wonderful article on WashingtonPost.com, talking about how I’ve been staying healthy and active years after my boxing career. We are all fighters inside and outside of the ring, and listening to your body helps with your overall health. You must keep active and stay balanced between both physical and monetary things with your body because it’s a great asset.

Some of my favorite physical activities besides working out in my home gym with punching bags, are golfing and tennis. Those sports really keep your mind sharp and your body fit. Besides physical activity, I work my mind and have been reading a lot. One of my favorite books right now is ‘33 Men’ by Jonathan Franklin about the Chilean Miners rescue.

What are you doing to stay active?

    Ray

I love doing yoga twice a week! Running is also one of my favorite ways to sweat!

I still hit the speed bag, heavy bag and jump rope. I don't run as much as I did as a fighter; my knees can't take it. I actually sparred a few years ago at the age of 42; didnt look to bad. I haven't fought since the 96' eastern trials. I may go to the Masters Boxing Event for guys like myself, who are in their mid 40's; who still love the sport.
I watched you since the Olympics in 76'; saw you numerous times in the neighborhood. I remember after watching you defeat Bruce Finch in 82'; I said I want to box.
      Thanks Ray !!!!!
